Samsung Galaxy S IV launch in April

Samsung Galaxy IV, the rumored next flagship of the South Korean giant might actually launch in the month of April according to a couple of images from an internal raffle doc at a New Zealand mobile retailer.

The raffle doc states that all the prize winners will be given a Samsung Galaxy S IV smartphone. The raffle ends on April 9, so we imagine the prizes should be delivered shortly after.

If the raffle details are to be trusted, Samsung's latest smartphone will be launched in the month of April. This aligns nicely with previous rumors pointing to an announcement in March and launch in the third week of April.

Since Samsung won't be bringing the Galaxy S IV to the upcoming MWC such a strategy would make sense so the company doesn't lag behind its rivals, who will all have 1080p smartphones by April. Then again the Galaxy S III is still selling pretty well, so maybe there's no point in Samsung rushing things up.

HTC M7 to go on sale from March 8

HTC will be holding two press conferences simultaneously in New York and London on February 19. According to numerous leaks the Taiwanese company will reveal its latest M7 flagship smartphone at those.

Now a new rumor has it that the HTC M7 is expected to go on sale starting from March 8. Unfortunately, there are no confirmations on which carriers will have the device up for grabs. Earlier we heard the smartphone will be available in UK and the rest of Europe before it reaches the US.

The launch date aligns well with the earlier leaks and HTC is allegedly working on manufacturing about 4-5 million units of M7 in the Q1 of 2013.

If this new info comes out correct the M7 will be made available in Black and Silver/White color variants.

HTC MWC 2013's kick off

HTC is holding a press conference on February 19, a whole week prior to the MWC 2013's kick off. The event will take place in London and will start at 10:00AM local time.

Unlike Nokia, which has already confirmed its pre-MWC press event for February 25. HTC's press conference will take place outside the MWC host city Barcelona, as HTC tries to have more of the spotlight for itself.

And it will most likely succeed, considering the strong possibility that the Taiwanese will announce its M7 future Android flagship there. The Android smartphone will boast the smallest 1080p screen on the market. As such the 4.7" display will have the mind-blowing pixel a pixel density of 468 ppi.

Parts of the the smartphone have already posed for the camera, so the M7 is all but officially confirmed at this point. It's highly likely the M7 to run HTC's latest Sense UI 5.0 on top of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Update: In addition to the London press conference, HTC has also confirmed there will be a parallel event in New York on February 19.

Karbonn S1 Titanium quad-core smartphone costs €150

Karbonn S1 Titanium has gone official in India. It’s a quad-core smartphone running on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The S1 Titanium is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor. The smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch qHD (540x960 pixels) IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage expandable via a microSD card slot, a 5MP rear camera with a LED flash and a VGA front one.

The Karbonn S1 Titanium is a dual-SIM phone with quad-band GSM support with EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and FM radio.

The best part about the Titanium is its price - the handset costs INR10,990 or about €150. You can place your order right now from here. It seems the S1 Titanium is after the recently announced Micromax A116 Canvas HD - it loses some screen estate and camera megapixels but it costs INR4000 less or about €60, which makes it an attractive offering.

Can BB10 save BlackBerry?

In the run-up to the launch of the first iPhone, Apple’s share price rose from $93 to a peak of $140. As Research in Motion girds itself for the launch of BB10, it’s risen from $6.22 to $17.54. Few figures could be more indicative of the huge anticipation surrounding BlackBerry’s new Z10 device, or how low RIM’s stock has fallen.
That rise – 281 per cent compared to 50 per cent – already reflects the careful management of BlackBerry mobile phone launch and the enthusiasm of networks for another operating system to challenge iOS and Android, as well as how low BlackBerry has sunk. No wonder Forrester’s Charles Golvin calls the challenge “gargantuan”. It seems hard to imagine RIM taking the place of the iPhone five years from now.
Still, the devices themselves have both been widely leaked and widely praised. RIM has shown off so many features that everything seems to be coming together neatly, from the personalised typing patterns on the screen's keyboard to the combined inbox. Even BlackBerry’s plan to spend millions on making and showing a SuperBowl ad seems to have struck many observers as a reasonable marketing tactic rather than an act of desperation.
But a clear-headed analysis of BlackBerry shows two things: its core user base remains the corporate IT department, which for decades inflicted devices on poor employees yet now increasingly provides people with devices they genuinely want to own. And BlackBerry sustained its user base for as long as it did on the back of young people buying cheap, low-grade devices. Tales from professionals are all too often of poor build quality and multiple replacements.
Both those audiences have changed hugely: even security-conscious accountancy firms such as Deloitte are more than happy to provider employees with Android and iOS devices. Few actively choose BlackBerry when offered. Stopping the haemorrhage means turning around a battleship.

Nokia ends Symbian era

In its earnings announcement, Nokia confirmed that the 808 PureView was the last new device.

“During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian,” the company said. “The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.”

The manufacturer had previously noted that Q4 2012 was the “last meaningful quarter for Symbian”, and today’s confirmation was not a surprise to industry observers. Nokia's results confirmed numbers it released earlier this month while also adding that the firm is now back in profit.

The $585million profit was boosted by a decision to sell of its headquarters; the company now has £4billion in cash.

The 41-megapixel PureView used technology that is now starting to appear appear in Nokia’s Windows Phone-based Lumia handsets.

Nokia Lumia 510 battery test

Now that our review of the Nokia Lumia 510 is over, we are ready to share the details on the smartphone’s battery test. It’s the first smartphone to run on Windows Phone 7.8 and is probably the one with least powerful hardware, so we were interested how it would do.

The Lumia 510 shares many specs with the Lumia 610 we met with last summer, but comes with a 0.3-inch bigger display (that’s a more space to light up) and 4GB less of storage.

In the first test, the Nokia Lumia 510 lasted 8 hours and 22 minutes of 3G calls, where the screen is off, of course. This is half an hour less than the Lumia 610, but still a good enough score.

Huawei Ascend P2 looks sweet

Huawei's Ascend D2 and Ascend Mate created a lot of buzz among the tech enthusiasts at CES, but the company is not done with the announcements. A press image of the Ascend P2 has just leaked ahead of its MWC announcement, which is set to take place on February 24.

Huawei Ascend P2 is rumored to sport a 5" IPS display and is expected to pack a powerful 1.8 GHz quad-core processor along with 2 GB of RAM. The device also comes with 8GB of internal memory, 13 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera. Ascend P2 will be powered by 3000mAh battery and will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The design of Huawei Ascend P2 looks quite impressive in that leaked press image, too, so this might be one to keep an eye on.

Nokia to release a 38MP WP EOS phone

The Nokia 808 PureView was the company’s first PureView smartphone and it still holds the throne as the best cameraphone out there, despite the Lumia 920 challenge. It seems that this is about to change though as the company's Windows Phone camp is going to get its own PureView device.

According to the information that The Verge acquired, the device will include a sensor similar to the one inside the 808 PureView and the whole device will be made of aluminum. The latter coincides with the rumor for another upcoiming high-end Nokia Catwalk that’s also going to be made out of aluminum, according to previous reports.

The EOS is going to a high-end Lumia device, but isn’t clear whether it’s the aforementioned Catwalk, that’s going to replace the Lumia 920, or if it’s going to be a completely different animal.

What sources familiar with the matter have confirmed, though, is that AT&T will be offering the EOS, which isn’t much of a surprise considering the carrier's close connections with Nokia. As far as the design of the device goes, it’s believed to keep the square edges of the current Lumia line-up of smartphones.

Mobile Phones ? Heroes Or Hazards?

How many of you don't have a mobile phone? There won't be many, as it is estimated that there are over 5 billion cell phones in use worldwide. While most of us embrace these mini miracles, and many of us can't live without them, there are a growing number who believe they are detrimental to our health.

Since their inception over 30 years ago, there have been concerns about whether spending hours on a cell phone could actually damage our brains. As these little technological nuggets rely on radio waves to do their job, many believe these rays have the effect of a Microwave oven, in short frying our brains. While much research has been done in this area, there is still no proven link between mobile phone usage and brain damage, tumors or cancer.

The radiation that is emitted from all cell phones is actually electromagnetic radiation. The emissions are very small and are present due to the use of radio waves. Although they are believed to be safe to use, it makes sense not to use you it for hours at a time. Even small doses of radiation build up over time ,and the old adage ?better safe than sorry? seems appropriate in these circumstances.

So even though there is no medical evidence to mobile phones causing us damage, they have played their part in many accidents. Many road traffic accidents are still, sadly, the result of the driver using his mobile phone and being distracted. Driving any vehicle on todays congested highways requires total concentration at all times. Talking or sending sms massages on your phone greatly lowers your concentration level, and many fatalities have arisen from this misuse. The law takes these violations very seriously, and many drivers are now prosecuted for negligence, just as one would be if they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The message is out there that if you choose to use it while driving, you should be prepared to accept the consequences as this is no longer the minor misdemeanor that it once was.

Mobile phones have a permanent place in our society, and are here to stay. Undoubtedly, they have saved lives due the emergency services being called quickly, and therefore responding rapidly. Use yours responsibly and think before you take that call, or reply to that text. No call is so important that it's worth risking your life for, and a text can wait. Use your cell phone safely and sensibly, it could possibly save your life one day, it shouldn't be responsible for your demise.
