The latest data from comScore has been released and it shows that for the three months ended in January, Apple had a superlative period and even increased its lead over Samsung in the U.S. where Apple had a 37.8% share of the smartphone market, up from 34.3% in October. Samsung trails with a 21.4% slice of the smartphone pie in the States for the three months ended in January. HTC, Motorola and LG round out the top five with only LG showing a slight gain over the period from October's number.
Apple's iOS also made up some ground on Android in the U.S. platform wars. With a 52.3% share of the U.S. smartphone OS market, Google's lead over iOS has dropped by 4.8 percentage points. Apple's mobile OS picked up 3.5 percentage points to 37.8% over the period, while Android slipped by 1.3 percentage points. While finishing third, it was a rough three month period for BlackBerry, which dropped 1.9 percentage points to 5.9%.
