iPhone X is Apple next smartphone

It seems there’s still confusion over the name of Apple’s next iPhone, just days before the handset is due to be unveiled. We’ve heard all manner of rumoured names for Apple’s next iPhone, and the online leakers still seem no surer of what the device will be called than before. Yesterday, we published a report with information from 9to5Mac, which cited Chinese case makers who were adamant that the next phone will be called iPhone Edition.

Apple isn’t going to launch an iPhone 8 this September, Epstein asserts. If Apple followed the precedent it has set with previous models, iPhone 7S will be bumped up to the next number in the chronology. But that leaves the 2018 line-up as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8S.

The problem only compounds with each subsequent year, with the 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone and iPhone Plus always taking the moniker used to delineate the top-of-the-line model in the previous line-up. So, what will Apple name its new iPhone models? The rumour mill has a few suggestions – notably, iPhone Pro.

Early whispers around the next-generation iPhone suggested Apple would use the brand iPhone X, with the X to mark the 10th year of the smartphone range. We’ve also seen the letter ‘X’ used to denote 10 in MacOS versions, so there’s precedent for that too.

The past with rumours of next-generation Apple smartphones, has heard from a number of Casemecase manufacturers that the premium-level iPhone will be called the iPhone X.

The good news is that we’ve not got long to wait to find out the truth; Apple has already confirmed plans to host a major product launch event on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Auditorium in the company’s new Apple Park campus.
